New city buses are coming to the metro, as Cher Transport will be adding their fleet with brand-new Ankai HFF61000G39DE5 buses. These buses were the same one that with Land Car Inc last January for Davao's High Priority Bus System. What's great with these buses is the seats, as it is not made from plastic, its more on leather. It gives you a feel that you are riding a premium coach bus, but is designed to roam at the metropolis, with a wide isle for standing passengers, PWD ramps, and a dedicated PWD seats. These buses might get delivered in Manila this December, and it is highly likely that this bus will be serving on our roads by early 2021.
Different bus companies do have their livery to create their own identity, and to stand out against their competitors. And of all liveries we see in our bus companies, one stood out, and it's the "Twisted V" livery of Victory Liner. If you look at the photos, posted from our affiliate pages such as in Pinoy Bus Fanatic and Pinoy Bus Enthusiasts on Facebook, you'll see their posts of these buses had garnered the most likes online. And if you try to Google about buses in the Philippines, you'll see photos of Victory Liner, and it has more search results than any other bus companies. What makes Victory Liner's livery so attractive? Let's start with the colors. Victory Liner's Twisted V livery consists of 4 colors: white, red, yellow, and orange. But what strikes with is the most dominant colors on their livery, which were red and yellow colors, while orange serves as a secondary color numerically halfway between gamma-compressed red and yellow. The mix of their colors in their livery showcases a mix of a powerful and dynamic shade of red, to fun and friendlier shade of yellow. It tells us that their buses can dominate on our roads, but riding on their buses could be fun and friendly when it comes to their service. Their representation as a company was simple, yet is pleasing to the eye. The three colors of red, orange and yellow were unified to form a stripe, then twists at the middle with a letter "V", telling us that this livery represents the Victory Liner as a whole. Combining these color concepts brings us an idea that Victory Liner is a company that is serious to provide quality transportation service, but their staff and crew were friendly and fun. On the other hand, the colors red and yellow are those colors we see the most on our roads, especially roadsigns. Combining the colors of this bus would match the colors we see on the road, makes it the most attractive vehicle to be seen on the highway. Meanwhile, the white color serves as a canvass for the livery. It makes the livery more pronounced and can easily be seen. Although few buses had a gray color, but it was just needed to highlight the front bumper of the bus, and does not do much with the livery itself. The warm colors of their livery can easily grab your attention The warm colors of their Twisted V is something that our eye could easily get noticed. And if we place one of their buses in a pool of traffic and take a picture of it, the first thing you'll notice is their bus. According to CoSchedule Blog, a website that tells us about color psychology, a warm color such as red has a powerful presence to get someone's attention fast, while orange would bring comfort and motivation to your eyes. Hence, the reason why we see most sports cars that were sporting in red, orange, and yellow colors for these cars would look more attractive if these were sported with warmer colors and can seek more attention to the crowd. With the perfect blending of warm colors that we see in Victory Liner's livery, it's no surprise why buses from Victory Liner could easily grab your attention compare to others. The color combination brings joy, optimism, and confidence Colors do have their character too, and it is important to choose the right color to represent your branding, or identity as a company, or a group. In the case of Victory Liner's livery, you got the colors of red, orange and yellow. Red is a color of confidence, and anything that wears this color gets more attractive and eye-catching. And this was proven in a study back in 2017, where people were perceived self-attractiveness once they wear red. Meanwhile, orange is a color of motivation that brings towards positive attitude and general enthusiasm. It delivers a message of optimism, a positive outcome and hope. For Victory Liner, this is a relative message to its history, as it was named as a reminiscent of America's victory in the World War II. Lastly, yellow is a color of joy, happiness and cheerfulness. With the orange color in the livery, it supports the message of optimism for the company, its crew and drivers for being friendly, and the joy that a travel can bring. Hence, Victory Liner's livery has a color that brings joy, optimism, and confidence. Because of their livery, Victory Liner became an instant famous bus company in the country, giving an impression that their buses can stand out among the rest. This, all thanks to their attractive livery and its colors. Their success can tell us that when you want to market your brand or product, you need to pick the right color that could make proud and can stand out.
Additional sources: Insider, CoSchedule Blog, Online Library The transport modernization program had finally reached Zamboanga City, and with that is the new routing schemes for its modern PUVs. One of the ideas for the transport modernization program in the city is to organize the city's existing transportation routes, by merging several jeepney routes in the city to maximize the capacity of the modern PUV, and to minimize the city's road traffic. Currently, there are more than 20 jeepney routes in Zamboanga City that links its downtown proper, to its distant residential areas and communities. With the proposal for the transport modernization program in the city, these 20 jeepney routes will be reduced to at least 5 routes, meaning that most of these routes would be centralized and merged as one. This means, that the jeepney route in Zamboanga City Downtown to Pasonanca, Zamboanga City Downtown to Abong-Abong, and Zamboanga City Downtown to Sta. Maria would be merged into one centralized route. With this is a need of one centralized jeepney terminal, and there are some rumors that a proposed jeepney terminal is being planned along P. Lorenzo Street, corner General Vicente Avenue. A group of architects, the United Architects of Philippines Graduates Auxiliary (UAPGA) held its Mindanao-wide PUJ Terminal Design Competition. The objective is to design their city's centralized jeepney terminal. The winning design at the said competition was the group from Zamboanga City, with members Arch. Kirk Asher Cuerquis, Arch Reymart Salcedo, and Arch. Jesse Ker Jayson. The terminal design was dubbed as "Viaje de Ciudad", a Chavacano word for "A travel in the city". If adopted, it will be having Five terminal bays for five routes in the city. The terminal would have an X-Ray and Thermal Scanners at its entrance, comfort rooms, a dedicated area for food stalls, and a mini-lounge where passengers can stay for a while. Each terminal bay would have its own queuing area, where passengers can either sit or stand in their dedicated modular platform. Each modular platform were shaped in a circle, and has a distance of at least 1 meter, a layout that is perfect now that we take social distancing as a transportation practice in our new normal. Aside from the main terminal, a waiting shed will be built across the city. It would serve as a bus stop where passengers can disembark and loaded. The architectural design was inspired from a Vinta, a sail transport that is known in Zamboanga and was inherited by the Subanens and the Yakans who live by the shoreline. It also has architectural features that are environmentally friendly and adapt the modern designs that will provide a lesser carbon footprint in comparison to a conventional terminal design. Unfortunately, Viaje de Ciudad was a design concept from UAPGA. But the concept itself will become similar to the actual plan for Zamboanga City's transport modernization program.
As of this writing, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) had just made their launch last October for the transport modernization program in the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City. But who knows? If the LTFRB had seen Viaje de Ciudad and its concept, it might be that they themselves would take this concept that are truly modern and Zamboangeño. Source: UAPGA CDO Chapter, Ciudad Cosmopolita de Zamboanga - Progreso Y Desarrollo Updates Davao Metro Shuttle re-established its route to serve more passengers in their home province of Davao Del Norte. This route runs from Tagum City to Talaingod via Kapalong and Asuncion, with first trip at 6:00 AM and last trip at 4:00 PM. But because of COVID-19 Pandemic, passengers must follow strict community quarantine guidelines, being observed within Davao Region.
Fare from Tagum to Talaingod starts at PhP 80.00, while Tagum to Kapalong route would cost PhP 43.00. A design team reveals their concepts for "Five Regional Airports" in the Philippines, to include Iloilo International Airport, Laguindingan Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Francisco Bangoy International Airport. Integrated Design Associates (IDA), a company that has offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo had teamed up with GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) to bid the redevelopment for five regional airports in the Philippines. The goal of these designs is to expand the capacity of these airports by utilizing their existing vacant space to create an expansion for their passenger terminal building. As what the design is shown for the Francisco Bangoy International Airport, they added an edifice at the side of the passenger terminal building in order to maximize its capacity. The same concept is being planned for the other airports, such as the Laguindingan Airport where an edifice is being proposed to extend its existing passenger terminal building. The idea of having these extended edifices is to move the airport's ticketing booths and airline offices in one common area, while enabling the existing passenger terminal building to expand its boarding lounges, waiting area, and to allow more shops and amenities inside. Seeing these concepts for the five airports, it seems that they want to segregate the departure and arrival area of the airport, where departing passengers with all of their processes for booking and embarkation will be done at the extended edifice, while arriving passengers may proceed to leave from the existing passenger terminal building. A bridge will connect the existing airport to the extended edifice, where passengers can go through in and out. What is also notable here is that the edifice is located at the airport's parking lot. However, these designs did not show how they would address the parking spaces of these airports. Perhaps these edifices might include an underground parking, or they might do something else to address the airport's parking spaces. On the other hand, this concept enables our airports to maximize their capacity and to improve the flow of its passengers. This makes our airports more capable to accommodate more passengers, and spark a potential to become an international airport as to the airports of Laguindingan, and Bacolod-Silay.
In the end, these are just a mere concept for our five airports, and it needs to win in its bidding to materialize these concepts. But IDA may have a chance to win as they were the ones behind the designs for the Cebu-Mactan International Airport Terminal 2, and the New Clark International Airport. Source: IDA Construction works had just begun for the first eight-kilometer phase of the Makati subway project that will improve the connectivity and transportation within Makati's business districts. The underground line will link SM Makati to the University of Makati, and its first phase will be having eight stations. Each station is said to cost around US$ 100 Million to build, making the entire project to cost US$ 2 billion. Makati Subway is a public-private partnership (PPP) between Infradev and local government with financial support coming from three Chinese firms: Greenland Holdings Group, Jiangsu Provincial Construction Group and China Harbour Engineering Company. But this subway would not ease the traffic bottleneck in Makati, the project would include better drainage system, given that this project would include good pumping and drainage system, which will be installed underground. Originally, said eight-kilometer phase is targeted for completion by the year 2024. But with the COVID-19 Pandemic, said construction might get longer and would extend its targeted completion date. As of now, construction works had focused to digging a portion of the subway to give way for its tunnel boring machine, which will then get placed to dig the tunnel from one end into another. It is said that the tunnel boring machine will arrive from China by next year.
Once completed, the subway would have a ridership of about 700,000 per day, and the subway would interconnect with other rail and transport stations in Manila, such as the Mega Manila Subway Project, the Pasig River Ferry System, and the Metro Railway Transit. Source: BiliranIsland.com, LTFRB 8 Laguindingan Airport is one of the busiest airports in Mindanao, as it serves as a gateway to Northern Mindanao. And despite that the airport is classified as a Principal Domestic Airport Class 1 by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Laguindingan Airport plays a vital role when it comes to transportation and the economy in the Mindanao region, serving as a key airport for four cities: Cagayan De Oro, Iligan, El Salvador, and Marawi. The airport started its operations in June 2013 as a replacement airport for the cities Iligan and Cagayan De Oro. It has aimed to boost the economic activities at the Cagayan-Iligan Corridor, creating a transportation hub not just for the two cities, but for the cities and towns in between. It is said that the airport can accommodate 1.6 million passengers a year. But in 2019, the airport reported that it had catered 2 million passengers, at least 400,000 more than its annual capacity. Having said that, the airport sees a needing development in order to sustain the increasing demand and foot traffic. A bigger Passenger Terminal Building Since 2019, the government had laid proposals for the development of Laguindinan Airport. One of which that is about to begin in the coming years is to develop the existing Passenger Terminal Building (PTB). The airport did receive PhP 90 million from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) from the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA). But the expansion project was originally proposed for PhP 400 million, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and was later reduced to PhP 90 million. Despite that, construction for the PTB's expansion will continue as the airport entered a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that would enable it to add in more budget to pursue its initial development. New operator, better service On February 26, 2019, Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. was granted by CAAP an Original Proponent Status (OPS) for its unsolicited proposal for the airport's upgrade, expansion, operations, and maintenance. This means Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. will manage the airport, including its management, operations and maintenance, infrastructure and development. Aside from Laguindingan Airport, CAAP had granted Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. to do the same with the Bohol-Panglao International Airport. Better transportation services Rural Transit of Mindanao Incorporated, a transportation arm of Yanson Group of Bus Companies acquired Kinglong city buses, to be assigned for Laguindingan Airport - Cagayan De Oro route. These buses, a Kinglong XMQ6127G which was arrived in 2019 will play along with its existing counterparts from Super Five Transport, Magnum Express, and Odyssey Airport Express. Speaking of Super Five Transport, they did have their Higer KLQ6115ZAHEVE50E, an all-white coach, diesel-electric hybrid bus that they also had since 2019. Magnum Express, and Odyssey Airport Express meanwhile do have their premium van services, both of which had upgraded their fleet just recently. Becoming an international airport As of today, the airport is classified as Principal Domestic Airport Class 1 by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Despite that, airport and tourism authorities is looking forward to have direct flights to Busan, and Singapore to further bolster the tourism industry in the region. As mentioned, the airport will receive upgrades for their PTB, and said upgrades would include an upgrade to their facilities that would meet the standards for an international airport. One that is currently on the works, is to extend its runway from its current 2.1 kilometers, to 2.5 kilometers. This was disclosed by no less than the DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade last July. A PhP 250 million budget for this project is already included in the 2020 National Expenditure Plan (NEP), which Congress wants to approve before this year ends. Considering these upgrades and development for Laguindingan Airport, CAAP might reconsider to review its classification in the near future, and would formally rename the airport as Laguindingan International Airport. Business boom for Laguindingan, and towns in between Since the existence of Laguindingan Airport in 2013, massive development spur along the towns of Laguindingan, Opol, Initao, Alubijid, and in the City of El Salvador. One of the biggest development so far to note is the PhP 18-Billion Habini Bay project of Ayala Land Inc., which had started in 2018. A township project that would have housing, business retail, a technopark, and transportation hubs, including a bus terminal, a seaport and a school. Part of which is the Ayala Technopark, a 1,045,247-million-square meter property of Laguna Technopark Inc. (LTI) and is expected to be completed by 2022, with an estimated 5,000 jobs to be generated from the technopark. According to an interview from SunStar CDO with Ayala Land Inc., Ayala Technopark is envisioned to be the new logistics hub in the Philippines due to its strategic location, being Mindanao’s Business Center and Industrial Trade Corridor and Mindanao’s gateway to domestic markets in Visayas and Luzon.
Enrique B. Manuel, Jr., the assistant vice-president and estate head of Ayala Land Inc., said on BusinessWorld Online that Habini Bay would bring in inclusive growth by providing jobs and opportunities for the Mindanaoans in the area. Meanwhile, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is on the works for their 292-hectare Science and Technology Park which straddles the municipalities of Alubijid, Gitagum and Libertad. Development for this new campus will include a 3-Storey Training Facility, 2-Storey Dormitory, an Elevated Water Tank, and Stormwater Swale that will be vegetated with flood tolerant, erosion resistant plants. The airport did sure gave a massive impact, not just for the transportation in Mindanao, but also to its economy and development. It creates a perfect blend by equalizing the development within the area, instead of focusing on individual progress for the cities of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan. With these aforementioned progress, the future lies ahead for Laguindingan Airport to become not just a premier airport, but an economic hub for Mindanao.
