"Paabot po", "Pasahe" ...that's what we always hear from our fellow passengers inside a jeepney whenever they would ask you to favor their fare onto the driver. Not anymore in General Santos City as they introduce EZYkard, their version of Manila's beep card. Since the introduction of eJeepneys in General Santos City, they pushed to modernize how passengers would pay their fares inside these eJeepneys by introducing their own version of cashless payment system called EZYkard. Works exactly the same from Manila's beep card, you just simply load your EZYkard for a credit. And whenever you ride on their eJeepneys, you just simply tap the card on the provided counter, and you're good to go. Each card only costs PhP 100.00, which can be purchased at any convenience stores, retailer shops, and even inside these eJeepneys. Part of GenSan's Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) and of the country's push for modernize our public transport, the city through its local government and their local jeepney operators are advancing to adopt modern technology for a cleaner and better transport for commuters, and to entice people to commute and hop on in a mass transit system.
Time will come when all kinds of transport we see today would develop and become modernized from those that we get used to. At least for now, General Santos City took a step ahead, starting with the country's iconic transport - jeepneys. Additional source: LGU GenSan, EZYKard
